From “The Essential Rumi”
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing and
invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
I am a licensed mental health professional and a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor in the State of New York. As of December 16, 2023, I am also licensed to offer teletherapy services to State of Florida residents. I have always been fascinated by the mind and behavior, and I believe in change, hope, and resilience.
Twelve years ago, I decided to pursue a passion. I left behind a seven- year career in early childhood education to work with chemically dependent individuals and their families. I have five years of intensive job experience with the chemically dependent and dual diagnosis inpatient population; additionally, I have fifteen years of focused studies in the 12-Step Recovery philosophy and process, which is highly compatible with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am naturally gifted in delivering psychoeducation. Understanding the disease of addiction is vital for recovery, and working on the solution is recovery. I know that people can and do recover if they are committed to being honest, open, and active.
I welcome the opportunity to help anyone who is struggling with addictive and/or obsessive tendencies. I can offer you a toolbox to assist in unlocking awareness and regaining your connection with yourself, others, and the things you love. I promise to guide and support you through this miraculous journey of becoming the person you desire and deserve to be. I am here for you. I will meet you exactly where you are, without judgment, and ALWAYS with compassion and empathy… for that I am responsible.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based therapeutic intervention that involves correcting unhealthy thought patterns that arise in your day-to-day life, with the result that it can influence how you spend your time and energy, and set you on a more constructive and clear-headed path. It can be applied for clients struggling with issues including, but not limited to, mood disorders, anxiety, and OCD.
Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment that teaches skills in areas of mindfulness, emotion regulation, improving relationships, and tolerating distress. It is useful for many mental health conditions, as well as for individuals who struggle to manage their emotions or who wish to reduce their reliance on unhealthy coping mechanisms.
A note on mindfulness: It is a skill that can be developed, in which you learn to focus on the present and observe what is going on within and around you, without judgment. Although it is rooted in Buddhist meditation practices, it has been demonstrated to have positive effects on physical and mental health, including reduction in anxiety and depression, improved sleep, and benefits for those struggling with substance use disorder.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is based on the idea that viewing human emotions as negative or problematic leads us to avoid and deny them, rather than accepting them in order to move forward. As uncomfortable as it may be to accept difficult feelings, being able to view them without judgment can actually lessen their hold over us and make them easier to address by taking meaningful action.
When you work on yourself to make change, it’s important to know why it matters to you. Whereas, if you work towards a goal without really knowing your own reasons for doing so, you may find it difficult to get motivated. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a nonjudgmental, collaborative technique used to help you identify your own reasons for wanting to make change, your personal “why”s that will actually inspire you to take action. It is based on collaborative discussion, open-ended questioning, and supporting you to transform your intention into action.
Inherently Kelly has allowed me to move into a space of comfort and healing. Most importantly she motivated me to become the person I always wanted to be by removing uncertainty and doubt. I was always too afraid to confront my demons, to transform and transition into a safe place for me to grow, there was always a threshold of fear and dread that accompanies change, somehow Kelly knew how to navigate through those doors whilst holding patiently onto a safety net should I fall. She is that good, that confident and supportive, ultimately Kelly knew how to build and grow my power, self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-awareness.
Thank you, Kelly, there are very few people that accommodate change and space held.
I have been working with Kelly for 5 years now and the progress I have made with her has been outstanding. From a young age I’ve suffered from numerous disorders, including anxiety, depression, and panic disorder; But, it wasn’t until I began working with Kelly, did I see my quality of life drastically change for the better. At first, we were in person, speaking face to face from the comfort of her cute and cozy office, and as we moved into a virtual meeting during the pandemic, it worried me to not be able to see her in person again. However, Kelly is the type of therapist whose empathy and talent transcend technology, and we were able to overcome the distance and continue making progress together. I’ve never felt rushed or transactional, which is important for me in a good therapist; Kelly always makes me feel heard, understood, and appreciated. I’ve learned important and valuable tools for coping with anxiety and depression–and overall living a happier life–which I can now say are at my disposal and used frequently. To this day, Kelly remains the best therapist I’ve ever had and I’m excited to see what the future holds for me in my continually healing journey.
I’ve been a client of Kelly’s for nearly four years and in that time, she has helped me work through past trauma in a way that applies logic to the situations which has allowed me to let go and heal. She encourages me to do the work on my healing journey and holds me accountable. Kelly goes above and beyond as well – she checks in frequently, even if you don’t have a scheduled session with her, showing that she genuinely cares about her clients. It means a lot, especially when you’re going through tough times. I love working with Kelly. I even have check-in sessions with her when I’m not working on anything specifically. Here is when I find I do the most work and I appreciate all of her insights.

It can be hard to put our trust in others, particularly if we have had negative experiences doing so in the past. Many of us become so self-reliant and independent as a result that we may miss out on the benefits that come with having healthy and trusting relationships. Research has shown, time and time again, that people need and crave human connection. Perhaps you are feeling stuck, and this possibility feels very distant right now. Here is your opportunity to gradually, at your own pace, step outside your comfort zone and see what lies beyond that discomfort. As you become more aware, noticing who in your life is consistent in their actions and words, you will gain the skills to trust your own instincts and build your confidence. The greatest gift that you can give yourself is the self knowledge that comes with doing this work. Come in with an open mind, ready to receive the tools that will help you to help yourself.
