From “The Essential Rumi”
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing and
invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
I am a licensed mental health professional and a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor in the State of New York. As of December 16, 2023, I am also licensed to offer teletherapy services to State of Florida residents. I have always been fascinated by the mind and behavior, and I believe in change, hope, and resilience.
Twelve years ago, I decided to pursue a passion. I left behind a seven-year career in early childhood education to work with chemically dependent individuals and their families. I have five years of intensive job experience with the chemically dependent and dual diagnosis inpatient population; additionally, I have fifteen years of focused studies in the 12-Step Recovery philosophy and process, which is highly compatible with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am naturally gifted in delivering psychoeducation. Understanding the disease of addiction is vital for recovery, and working on the solution is recovery. I know that people can and do recover if they are committed to being honest, open, and active.
I welcome the opportunity to help anyone who is struggling with addictive and/or obsessive tendencies. I can offer you a toolbox to assist in unlocking awareness and regaining your connection with yourself, others, and the things you love. I promise to guide and support you through this miraculous journey of becoming the person you desire and deserve to be. I am here for you. I will meet you exactly where you are, without judgment, and ALWAYS with compassion and empathy… for that I am responsible.
I formerly spent 7 years in education and transitioned to mental health 12 years ago. I specialize in Substance Use Disorder & Recovery. I have experience working in inpatient, outpatient, day rehabilitation and group practice prior to starting my own private practice. I have a 15 year extensive knowledge of 12- Step Philosophy and the Step work process. I am uniquely qualified to guide you through challenges related to anxiety, depression, relationship stress, life transitions, anger management, couples counseling, and substance use.
Integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), I provide a comprehensive toolbox for unlocking emotions, true self-awareness and fostering connection and self-compassion with yourself and others.
It can be hard to put our trust in others, particularly if we have had negative experiences doing so in the past. Many of us become so self-reliant and independent as a result that we may miss out on the benefits that come with having healthy and trusting relationships. Research has shown, time and time again, that people need and crave human connection. Perhaps you are feeling stuck, and this possibility feels very distant right now. Here is your opportunity to gradually, at your own pace, step outside your comfort zone and see what lies beyond that discomfort. As you become more aware, noticing who in your life is consistent in their actions and words, you will gain the skills to trust your own instincts and build your confidence. The greatest gift that you can give yourself is the self knowledge that comes with doing this work. Come in with an open mind, ready to receive the tools that will help you to help yourself.
